Don't be fooled by the bad comment, Sisters' is a great place to visit, current with all the trends in decorating. Two houses filled with fun decor, old and new and if you read any of the popular decorating magazines, you will see many of the products here.
Beautiful Iowa found primitives fill the store, the country setting is nostalgic and the free parking lot is always filled with HAPPY shoppers. It is worth the trip.
Unique Suggestions: However, if you're of a mindset that all antiques must be perfectly polished, with no chippy paint, and set all in row, then this might not be for you, although Sister's does carry those items, they just don't sell as well. As far as gardens, if you are looking for a garden store, this is not it, Sisters' carries OLD garden furniture and concrete items for your garden settings.
I've been a dealer there for 14 years and have sold very well, if that means anything to anyone...so by all means, go to Sisters'. If you are a hip shopper, up to date with what decorating is all about today, then by all means go...all others, don't bother.
Sisters' Garden was on my list of things to see in Kalona because I am an avid gardener and always love to see what garden shops have to offer. So, we drove to this place 6 miles north of Kalona on Highway 1. We would have passed right on by.
What a disappointment. It was one of the most disorganized, ill kept places that I've seen. It advertises, "Are you looking for inspiration and new ideas for your home & garden?"
I will admit that it is indeed "eclectic" but it is in no way "sophisticated". When they say Antiques, they mean it. The items are strewn all about, rusting, and rotting.
Fun Alternatives: My suggestion would be to drive right on by. Now, if you like what I term as junk items, and some people do, then it's a place for you to peruse.
