This mill was completed in July 2002 and is now an eyecatcher in the historic village. You won't find a larger working windmill in the whole of the US. The mill was constructed in parts in the Netherlands by the Lukas Verbij firm from Hoogmade. It was then assembled by two dutch craftsmen on location in Pella.
The grain mills from the 1850's in the province of Groningen has been used to model for this mill.
In the gift shop you can buy souvenir bags with flour from the mill.
To make the mill accesible for people with dissabilities it has been fitted with an elevator which can bring you up to the viewing platform. The platform itself isn't suited for wheelchairs because of the open structure of the wood just like the original mills. There have been made a few extra precautions to the rails around the mill to prevent people from falling down.

Every May in Pella is a riot of color with all the tulips. So Pella celebrates with Tulip Time the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday in May.
There are Parades with the required street washing before the arrival of the Tulip Queen and her court. Also Dutch dance presentations with dancers dressed in Dutch clothing and wooden shoes.
