In 1874 farmers built the schoolhouse southwest of Beloit. Named Honey Creek School it served not only as a house of learning but also as a meeting place for parents. The original school was replaced by a rock building which in turn was destroyed by a tornado. The next version was built of timber but burnt to the ground in 1942. The current school came next and remained in use until 1961. In 1970 the Honey Creek School moved it from its original site southwest of Beloit to its present location.

Built in 1901 for a total of $38,310, the Mitchell County Courthouse was called the Queen Mary of Courthouses in Kansas. In 1904, the Seth Thomas four-faced clock was installed in the Courthouse tower and was paid for by donations. Originally run by hand; the clock was converted to electricity in 1950. The Courthouse contains 25 rooms over three floors. In the halls, the original stone floor tiles, decorative metal ceiling and early embossed wall coverings are visible. In November 1977 the courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historical places.

The St. John the Baptist Catholic Church was established by German immigrants who settled in the Solomon Valley near Beloit in 1852. Work started on the current building in 1900 and completed in 1904. St. John’s was the first church in the USA built with flying buttresses and a ceiling entirely made of stone. It was, at the time, the largest church west of the Mississippi River.
