John Redmond Lake was built in 1964 to control flooding. In addition to controlling flooding the lake has created a place for boating, fishing, and wildlife.
The city of New Strawn is called New Strawn because the former town of Strawn is under the lake.
Coffey County Museum is in a large and modern brick building. Inside are collections of dolls, guns, pens, and more. There are historical exhibits from the areas history.
Step out side the museum to also visit a one room shcool and an old church that have been moved to the site.
The Wolf Creek Environmental Education Area is a good place for BIRDWATCHING, hiking, and learning about nature. I think this bird viewing blind in the photo is the fanciest one I have ever seen.
