Colby Things to Do

  • by stevestone_ky Written Jul 26, 2005

The Prairie Museum is two museums in one. inside there is an amazing collection of memoriabilia from across the 20th century. Collections of dolls, toys, poltical buttons, coins, etc. are nicely displayed.

Outside there is the largest barn in Kansas, a sod house, a one-room schoolhouse, and more.

I'm not sure I would plan a day around it, but as a 1 or 2 hour stop as you are driving interstate 70 with kids, (or even without them) it was outstanding.

Favorite thing: Thomas County is named after George Thomas, a US Army General who fought in the Civil War.

The Courthouse, designed in the Romanesque Revival style, was designed by local architect Glen Strait, and was dedicated in 1906. Happy centennary!
