Favorite thing: Of the 60 million that roamed that plains at one time, only 594 remained at 1890. Now back to a total of maybe 2,000, it is pitiful we did such a thing to these beasts. The motivation is it took away the meat and substance form the Indians. This really depicts what we can do as a society to destroy ourselves in a quick instant. It only took 5 years to annihilate the herds. What a pity

Favorite thing: They have some friendly and pleasing people behind the counter to direct you to the sites in town. Not all are as great as they depict, however, as you may find out. Boot Hill Museum is the main feature due to its extensive displays of items, and real history of the town.

Fondest memory: The smell of cattle being slaughtered.

Favorite thing: One thing that you will notice if travelling through Dodge City (or any community for that fact in Kansas) are the HUGE grain elevators. Kansas is known as the Wheat State and the breadbasket of the United States. So in many towns, you will have a grainery which stores the grain that is harvested. Usually there are train tracks next to the grainery that will ship the product to other areas of the country. You always know that you are coming to a town in Kansas from 30 miles away because you will see the tall silos first (this helps especially if you have to pee and there are no rest stops. Just look for the silos and push on the gas! LOL) Thanks Bradbrown for the updated information!

Fondest memory: Not insomuch a fondest memory of Dodge City, but of Kansas. It really does amaze me how flat it is, but when you are out on a two lane highway, no one else around, surrounded by fields of wheat, it's an amazing site to behold. Just make sure that there is not a tornado in the picture!

Favorite thing: Boot Hill Cemetery, Museum and a reconstructed 1870's Main Street are the principle attractions. During the summer travel months, you can count on seeing staged gunights, robberies, etc.
