I knew a fellow who got killed because he did not slow down and look for trains at a crossing. The railroad tracks gp right through town. The railroad helped Emporia to grow. Be careful when you are driving and come up on a crossing.

Coming in to Emporia from the west on highway 50 there is a place where the speed is reduced. You will go under a highway bridge at the point where the slower speed begins. Be certain to slow down or you may get a ticket. The highway patrol often waits on other side of the bridge where they can not be seen.

You will see big sirens mounted on tall poles. The tornado sirens go off every Wednesday at 10:00am. It is not a tornado at that time they are only testing the system. If you hear the sirens any other time ask some one where to take shelter.

No need to fear the water. Emporia has one of the most modern water treatment plants in Kansas. In this picture beyond the settling pools you can see a new tower that purifies water by using ozone.

Q: Is there any bars that have a place nxt to it for a big truck to park at?
A: It seems to me that "semi-truck parking" and "bar" should not cross each other on the same sign.
