County Seat Cafe is on highway 54 in Iola. You can't miss it. I stopped in there and had lunch. Pretty good cheeseburger and fries. The breakfast menu looked better than the lunch menu. This is a local place where people will relax and drink coffee and talk. There is a collection of interesting mugs on the wall behind the register. On the opposite wall there is a collection of bricks. Paving bricks with words in them lined up on a shelf.

If you live in Iola (or any where else in Kansas) you'll get to see great sunsets. Took this picture from along highway 54 one evening in January.

Gas, Kansas is near Iola. There is no seperate VT page for Gas. The residents of Gas seem to have a sense of humor. The water tower is painted red like a can of gasoline and it says 'Gas Kan' instead of 'gas can'.

There is a Russel Stover's Chocolate Candy Factory in Iola. I warn you that the free sample table will be too tempting to resist. I was there in January and they had Christmas candy marked down in price by 75%. I got some very good deals on chocolates there. If you like chocolate or know some one who does I urge you to visit the factory. The Factory is just off of State street.

This is not a real trap but I've spent a lot of time in this place. It is a sort of flea market/antique store with lots to see.

Favorite thing: It is a shame this is not a better photo. This picture was taken in early afternoon. The buildings in Iola near the down town area are painted bright colors. In the morning the vivid hues of pale blue, yellow, and pink are brightly lit. When I took this photo the buildings were in shadow.
When you visit Iola you should take highway 54 through town till you see these buildings. Park your car near them and you will be within a short walk of the old jail, General Funston's home, the big clock, and even the county seat cafe. There are some nice little shops in this area as well.
