Art TouGeau - one of Lawrence's many colorful events, is sponsored by the Lawrence Arts Center and local businesses, and is held each year in May. It features zany art creations on wheels. The highlight is a parade of these artworks.

Annual event in downtown Lawrence - and old-fashioned parade: no motorized vehicles, no bands, NO POLITICIANS - just horses and horse-drawn carriages and wagons decorated for the season. I believe it is always the first Saturday in December - check first.

Superstitious KU students refuse to walk all the way through the foyer of the Campanile at any time before graduating, saying that do so is bad luck. Only on graduation day, when thousands of robed seniors descend the hill to the stadium do they allow themselves to walk through.
Another bit of folklore involving graduation day says that the bronze Jayhawk statue in front of Strong Hall will fly away if a virgin ever graduates! And who am I to break with tradition?

Most people here don't blink or stare or frown at someone different from themselves. They seem to welcome a stranger's face...a new identity...a fresh point of view. The city promises equal rights to its gay and lesbian citizens. I suppose being a university town means most everyone is keen to learn and to share.

I noticed a lot of people take their dogs down town and walk them there for execise. It is kind of fun just to sit at a cafe with tables out side and watch the dog walkers and other people walking by.
