This stone marker near highway 56 shows the routes of the famous trails. The chisolm trail went to Abilene and was used by cowboys herding cattle. The Santa Fe trail was a trade route from the eastern US to Spanish colony of Santa Fe in New Mexico. Santa Fe trail goes to places like Council Grove to the north. My wife has her finger on the approximate spot where the buffalo are.

This is not a great picture but it shows two important things. There is a flock of wild turkeys in a green field of winter wheat. The turkeys are cautious and to sneak up on them for a better picture was not possible. There is much wildlife around the area of McPherson. The wheat is important as well because it is an important crop grown in Kansas.
