Visit the Carriage Factory Gallery and Museum.
Inside this old carriage factory there are works of art both to look at and to buy. They also have a gift shop with Kansas souvenirs.

Applebee's: Don't mind the kids
grayfo Says:
A very friendly restaurant for all the family.
A 9 oz. Sirloin steak, grilled to perfection and served with garlic mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and garlic toast, all washed down with the traditional cold beer.February 2005
Mokas: Loving me some Coffee!!
thresherpirate Says:
I'm always hopeful that someone will see a review of something in Newton, give me a call, and give me the chance to take them to Mokas, the college student's favorite place for coffee. Supports smaller business, has great food dishes, and has a nice atmosphere right on main...

In the photo you will see the old steam engine #1880. It sits in a park not far from the main business district. There is a train yard in Newton. I still say getting around any place in Kansas requires a car.

Warning. Don't go to Newton on a Saturday afternoon in February and expect to find many places open. This is the Harvey County Historical Museum. The posted hours said it would be open that day. We went back several times and it was always closed. The Warkentine House is closed entirely in months of January and February. We had a little bad luck finding places we wanted to see were closed. I suggest visiting Newton on a weekday in Spring to really see places.

This is the train station in Newton on the main street. Supposedly the station was built to look like the home of William Shakespeare. If any one has seen the Shakespeare home tell me if it is the same?

This is the front of the Warkentine House. Bad picture. The sun was behind house putting the front in shadow. House is located at 211 E. 1st street. Can you see the sign in front yard? Those signs are in front of every point of historic interest in Newton.

At points of historical interest in Newton there are informational signs like this one. This one was in a small park by the carriage factory. I saw one in front of the museum and the Warkentine house also.

This is the back side of the Warkentine House. The front was prettier but it was in shadow because of location of the sun.

Favorite thing: There is a fine looking building at 500 N. Main called 500 Main Place. That is easy to remember. It is just north of the train station. Inside is a visitor center. There are leaflets, maps, information, and even free postcards. It is a place you must visit if you have not been to Newton before.
Fondest memory: My fondest memory was going to my sister's highschool graduation in Newton.
