Olathe Things to Do

  • Ernie Miller Nature Center

Johnson County, Kansas, has lots of nice walking paths. Three of them are within the confines of this park, administered by Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. In recent years, the district has upgraded the park's visitor center, now a great place to take the kids.Bittersweet Trail is a short, easy asphalt trail with benches. Old South...

  • City Hall

Olathe's City Hall is worthy of mention because of its attractive design, and even more because of its surrounding art work, gardens, and sculpture. If you happen to be in the downtown area, it's worth taking a few minutes to admire the site.

  • Prairie Center

There is very little left of America's native tall grass prairie. This 300 acre park, located just west of Olathe, contains two sections of the remaining tall grass prairie plus a small lake, gently meandering creek, and some woodland. On my one visit to this nature preserve, I walked for about an hour, observing turkey, deer, and a beaver, in...

I grew up going to this park all the time. It's a 10 minute walk from my house. The nature center has educational exhibits inside, but the best thing to do is walk the trails around the park. There are deer, beavers, raccoons, birds, wildflowers. Eat picnic lunches, sit on a the bridge. My best friend and I always wanted to make a scary movie...

The plaque near this whimsical yet touching sculpture reads:CHILDREN OF THE TRAILSArtist: Kwan Wu Perhaps the greatest test of the pioneers' spirit was the loss of children like Asa Smith to the harsh and unforgiving elements of the frontier. • MidAmerica Nazarene University

MNU is the newest of the colleges and universities in the US operated by the Church of the Nazarene, so don't expect to see a campus with venerated old, ivy-covered castles of learning. The university does provide, however, a fine Christ-centered curriculum, and is especially noted for its programs in nursing, education, and religion. Sports-wise,...

  • Favorite Steak Restaurant!!! Texas...

This place is my absolute fave! It has so much atmosphere and is very reasonably priced. We like it so much we go there weekly! If you're expecting a fancy steak restaurant don't come here. They play country music (free juke box by the way), throw peanut shells on the floor, and have the BEST rolls around with cinnamon butter! I can't say enough...

  • Budget Italian

This is my favorite restaurant in Olathe. It's casual and reasonably inexpensive. The food is always good and you get enough to eat two meals from it. My favorite dish is chicken parmesean. I also love the cheese ravioli on a nest of pasta with half alfredo sauce and half marinara sauce. The key lime mints you get after your meal are great too.

  • Farm-raised, Grain-fed Catfish!!

If your experience of catfish is eating muddy river bullhead catfish with a thick, hard breading, you will be amazed at the taste and texture of farm-raised, grain-fed catfish the way they prepare it at Jumpin' Catfish. It's wonderfully flavorful. Try the filets or nuggets all-you-can-eat special. Good sides, too. They serve other items - fried...

Sheridan's is a very popular hangout where the lines can get long with people waiting to get a wonderfully tasty cool treat. • Nostalgia and Pasta

In the 1940s and 50s, it was common for Italian-American families to open a small restaurant in the front room of their home, then expand to other rooms as business improved. Gambucci's was built to re-create this atmosphere - you might eat in the Living Room, or Papa's Lounge, or in the Wine Cellar. These rooms are decorated with Italian-American...

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well,it's not really a danger, but if you don't come to take a place early in the morning you will not be able to see the parade. At 9 o'clock it's already crowded. The only way to see the show just to find the biggest tree & climb on it,but it's hot .Mister Golden Sun is really shining!
