Minsky's has GREAT pizza!!! The are a local chain of restaurants and have been around in Kansas City since 1976. There are several locations in the area, but we go to the Shawnee, KS location since it's closest.
They have pizza, pasta, chicken, salads and sandwiches. You can dine in or take out, or have delivery.

The Pine and Bamboo has a very loyal following of locals and is particularly popular with Asians from this part of the metropolitan area. The second generation of the Lo family is now operating this fine establishment. The service is friendly and reliable. Until recently, the decor was nothing special and there were lots of tables in a small area. A recent expansion and remodeling have brought the decor and comfort up to the same high level as the food. As with so many family owned Chinese restaurants, it has a non-descript front and is located in a strip mall.
Favorite Dish: The menu is huge! The Triple Delight has always been great, as are all of their specialties. My current favorite is chicken with pineapple and cashews. It's just a little spicey, overwhelmingly so, and there is an abundance of the three main items. Personally, I have never favored their sweet and sour dishes, but there are too many great offerings to downgrade the Pine and Bamboo Garden.

This restaurant could be included in a section of historical sites. This federal style home was built about 1850, perhaps as a mission parsonage sitting adjacent to the Shawnee Indian Meeting House. In 1854, Andrew Reeder, first territorial governor of Kansas, resided in the home.
The Governor's Meeting House could also be listed as "off-the-beaten-track." It is secluded on a residential street.
Most importantly, however, it is a restaurant featuring two dining rooms and seating for forty persons in a tasteful and romantic setting. Dinner is by reservation on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, beginning at 5:30.
Favorite Dish: I only recently discovered that this establishment has re-opened under new management. Because it is now a little more expensive than a restaurant Nancy and I would routinely eat in, we'll wait for a special occasion, then report back.

Open only for breakfast and lunch. Marvelous egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, as well as sandwiches. Can get real busy, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A favorite with the after church crowd.
Favorite Dish: Omelettes, but the wheat germ pancakes are outstanding, as well. Several of our friends have granola added to the mix also.

This shop was formerly part of the local chain know as Pizza Shoppe. This company makes excellent pizza, but the folks in Shawnee wanted to do some things different. So they bought the facility, endured six months of closure to fulfill part of the agreement, redorated, and reopened to eager and loyal customers.
IT WAS WORTH IT!! These folks make a wonderful pizza, with a crispy, thin crust, and offer a huge variety of toppings.
Favorite Dish: A Queen Sized pizza with chicken, artichoke hearts, and alfredo sauce. Incredible.

Popular chain of bagel shops. A wide variety of freshly made bagels available, plus bagel sandwiches, soups, salads, panini. Full line of of espresso based coffee drinks also, but not my favorite place for coffee.
This is certainly the best place in Shawnee to get bagels!
Favorite Dish: Power Bagel with honey almond butter. This bagel is not actually round and does not have a hole, but it is chock full of grains and fruits, is hearty, delicious, and nutritious. As I said above, I'm not wild about Einstein's coffees, but their mocha is pretty good.

Paulo and Bill's - the name doesn't sound Italian, but it is.
Great service, warm decor. Shawnee's most upscale place to eat.
Favorite Dish: frutti di mare, wonderful daily specials
