by Basaic Written Sep 24, 2012

Stockton is a town of just over 1300 (a drop of almost 15% since 2000) located in North Central Kansas. Stockton was founded in 1872 along the trail between Fort Kearney, Nebraska and Fort Hays, Kansas. Stockton is the county seat of Rooks County which was named after Private John C. Rooks a Kansas Infantry Soldier killed during the Civil War. The Rooks County Courthouse is very impressive building and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
