    Great Plains Transportation Museum

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Great Plains Transportation Museum has a great location in Old Town with tracks and the Santa Fe steam locomotive #3768 extending over a main street. The Santa Fe steam locomotive #3768 was the fourth locomotive of the 3765 class, which Santa Fe commissioned to be built as "the next generation" locomotive for their passenger trains in 1938. Visiting the museum can be broken down into two parts, the inside consisting of various pieces of history, pictures and a gift shop. Whilst outside, visitors can climb into 13 assorted old engines and railroad cars. The museum is operated by the Wichita Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.

The museum was established in 1939 as the Wichita Public Museum. Today the museum resides in the original City Hall building, a distinctive local landmark built in 1892 and known as the “Palace of the Plains”. Exhibits are spread over four floors and go back to the 1860’s.

  • Best Movie Experience

by Auddie Written Jul 21, 2005

The Warren Theatre company has three movie theatres in Wichita. One on the east side, one on the west side, and one downtown. The east side theatre has a balcony section that includes a restaurant, bar, and couch seating. The downtown theatre has a huge sports bar, live music Friday nights, and you can order drinks & food from the waiter throughout the movie. Mercedes-Benz designed the seats for the theatre...which is why they are soooo comfortable.

    The Warren

by wanderingbtrfly Updated Sep 3, 2004

The Warren is one of the newest movie theaters in Wichita. It is the biggest theater that I have ever seen (and that's saying something, because I make a point to see a movie in every town I visit).
The Warren is in the middle of nowhere- at least it was when I was there in 2002.
There is a restaurant in the theater (balcony level), a restaurant in the lobby and the most comfortable theater seats I have ever sat in.
You have more leg room than I ever thought possible- you don't even have to 'scoot by' when walking through the rows.
It has been done in the old vintage style of theaters- definitely a treat to the eye.
And ladies, try not to get lost in the bathrooms. They're huge for a theater!!

Take in a movie at the Warren Theatre
Old style decor movie theatre complete with old fashioned soda fountain named...The HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN. They have the most comfortable seats in town to enjoy the best in first run movies.
