Wichita Things to Do

  • Sedgwick County Zoo

    5 out of 5 stars

The Sedgwick County Zoo is a poor excuse for a zoo! The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo is way better. If you're ever in Nebraska you should go. There are 14,500 more animals and 462 more species in Omaha than Wichita. It's way bigger and way better!

  • Exploration Place

If you visit Wichita, I would suggest putting this on your to do list. I was there awhile ago, and since then it seems they have really added a lot of exhibits, and even the cyberdome. I still had a good time myself though. My favorite exhibit is hands down the "Exploring Flight and Design." Make sure to try out the flight simulator with actual...

The Great Plains Transportation Museum has a great location in Old Town with tracks and the Santa Fe steam locomotive #3768 extending over a main street. This place is one of the best Museum's that Wichita has to offer. You can spend hours inside looking at each and everything. Giver yourself at least 3 hours time to visit the whole place. First floor: Exhibits the Ancient World, beginning with the 'Age of the Dinosaurs'. Over a dozen actual fossils including a very dramatic battling dinosaur...

There are 4 different buttons of these ducks and some Wichitians collect them. We have...

  • Spangles

    4 out of 5 stars

wE HAD NEVER SEEN A SPANGLES BEFORE and were impressed by the "crashing car" motif on the outside. IT WAS NOT TIME TO EAT when we were there but it raised our curiousity about seeing the interior, not to mention the menu. Maybe next time

    2.5 out of 5 stars

Wow! This was the absolute worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We stopped in for a quick, small lunch at about 1 p.m. on a Saturday. Upon entering and we waited at the "Please wait to be seated" sign. After several minutes, some fat guy, we later figured out he is the owner or manager, sees us and yells across the room "You go in there"...

  • Don't go late it's a ripoff!

We had eaten there for lunch and dinner before and it was pretty good. But this time we went a bit after 8:00 p.m. and it was horrible. We paid the same money as people that come early, but apparently later in the evening, they don't want to be bothered to keep the buffet fresh and filled--even a little. Many pans on the buffet were empty, the...

  • Driving Interstate 135 through Wichita

Here are some uninspiring photos of the dreary scenery you will see as you drive Interstate 135 through town. The road parallels a canal that is the subject of graffitti quite often. The city does its best to paint over it.

WE HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM getting through Wichita, either on I-35 or a western bypass route (I-235?). not until our May 2009 trip. • Smoke Warns YOu to Stop and Pull Over

Along the Flint Hills area, they burn the foliage to keep weeds down and grazing for cattle supple. Many complaints of this practice has been noted by big cities as far away as Kansas City (140 miles) because of the smog supposedly created. It is a tradition and necessity to keep doing this, however, and probably will not change. Fling Hills is...

Wichita What to Pack

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: With it being humid all the time make sure you are not caught wearing non breathable clothes!!
Also it is very windy here, so pack that hairspray!!

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Always have an umbrella in the car. Sometimes it could be 80 on Monday and on Tuesday (in the same week... as it was this week!) can be 40 or lower.
