DuPont Lodge Dining Room: A Visual and Culinary Feast
One of the things Karen and I enjoyed most about our stay at Cumberland Falls was having our meals at the DuPont Lodge Dining Room. It was a visual feast as well as a culinary one, with large picture windows overlooking the Cumberland River Gorge, upstream from the falls. There were also bird feeders at the windows which were busy with both songbirds and squirrels. In the evening, just after sunset, we were entertained by two fat raccoons who came out to clean up what the birds had spilled.
The service was excellent, and friendly.
Favorite Dish: On the weekends, and during the busier summer months, the restaurant offers a very good buffet, as well as menu service. We enjoyed the Saturday night buffet of fried chicken, catfish, numerous vegetables, salad, etc. for desert the buffet included banana pudding, blackberry cobbler, and the best sugarless cheesecake I've ever eaten, all for $11.95. The breakfast buffet was equally good for only $5.95.
For another meal we ordered Kentucky Hot Brown from the menu. This is a regional speciality which consists of turkey and ham over toast, smothered in a creamy cheese sauce and topped with bacon. I love it!

KOUNTRY KUPBOARD: LUNCH IN THE "KOUNTRY"
As we all were getting hungry, we searched for a place to have a bite to eat. Now remember, this is January, not many tourists and not many places open. We came upon a little place called KOUNTRY KUPBOARD and YESSSS! It was open for business. They offered sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgs. That's OK - it was all we needed. We all had a hamburger with a side of french fries. The ladies there laughed as we all took pictures of the place. Wies even convinced the ladies to have their picture taken. Crazy Vt'ers we are.
