Frankfort is about average in crime risk for most crimes but murder and theft are well above the normal risk levels. There are over 60 sex offenders registered in Frankfort. That is about 1 offender for every 500 people.
That does not make Frankfort an overly dangerous place but it does mean that tourists with children might want to check out the website below to see if there are going to be any problems in the areas they are going to travel.
Given this information, you might want to use the precautions that most safe travelers use:
lock doors, keep valuables out of sight and don't go to unfamiliar places alone at night.
If you do the smart things, then you will have a safe visit in Frankfort.

There was a sign at the entrance which warned about invasive speces.
The Salito Wildlife Center gave us a little leaflet to guide us around the outdoor enclosures. Included among the warnings was this one:
"Bears are always hungry - please do not feed the bears if you come upon one in the wild"
Although it has the appearance of a pedestrian mall, be aware that St. Claire Street is open to automotive traffic. And careful crossing the unguarded railroad line when crossing Broadway.
