Loretto Things to Do
Here is what likely was the first 'liquor store' in the US. The local distillery formerly sold bourbon by the jar here!
110 Holy Cross Rd, Loretto, Kentucky, 40037, United States
Good for: Couples
Favorite thing: This distillery get's my award for one of the two prettiest of bourbon distilleries in the US (I've seen them all, and several that are closed). This is a photo of the 'Barrel House' or the storage for resting barrels of whiskey.
Favorite thing: ...Visit the distillery. Don't worry you don't have to drink bourbon to enjoy this!
Maker’s Mark is the only operating distillery in America to be designated a National Historic Landmark. Do we sound proud or what? Originally built in 1805 as a gristmill distillery, it became the home of Maker’s Mark in 1953. Today, it is the oldest operating distillery on its original site.
Fondest memory: I must say my fondest memory of Loretto is having breakfast with Bill Samuels, Jr., owner of Maker's Mark distillery.
