A very typical pub setting, yet the layout of the bar is well-planned along with the decour. It was very slow when we went, on a Sunday night, but I was told by many locals one of the best pubs in town. The food, um, another story. We were foolish enough to try "Little John" sandwich, and of course, there was nothing little about it. A fried chicken(it looked like the whole chicken), with a fried egg on top, bacon, cheese, and garnishment. Could feed a family of 6. Not to be eaten without a fair supply of pebto bismol.
Favorite Dish: Not the little john sandwich

This is a little dive bar, but located closely to some of the more expensive areas of Louisville, so you get a little mix of all kinds of people.
Sitting right on a creek near the Ohio, the ambience is cool because you can watch people coming and going on their boats.
Favorite Dish: The grouper sandwich is my favorite in the city.

As a self-certified BBQ restaurant guru, I've been in plenty of BBQ places around the country. You better visit Pig City BBQ before some big chain snatches them up and messes the whole concept up.
They smoke with cherry wood, so it's not bitter tasting smokey meet. The pulled pork had a lot of smoke, but somehow wasn't dried out. It actually had my bun a little soggy!!!. They had 4 good sauces and 2 great sauces (KC and Texas hot). The ribs were super tender and not dry, which i can't figure out how they do that since they aren't slathered up in a bunch of sauce (they are memphis style). The brisket is Texas style REAL brisket and was cut-with-a-fork tender.
And then we tried the KC style burnt ends. They are the only place in know in Louisville where you can get them. WOW.
Chicken was so-so. We've eaten there about 10 times since they opened.
My wife loves the sides, especially the cheesey potatoes and real deviled eggs.
And guess what? no farm baskets with paper, they had plates and silverware, and the bathrooms were WAY upscale for a bbq place.
If you visit Louisville and have to have good bbq, this is your spot.
Favorite Dish: Chicken wings as an app, pulled pork was smokey and moist and brisket. but i'm a guy...so i love all the meats.

Classy, ultra-contemporary restaurant on Main, at the 21c hotel. Flawless service, friendly staff, and a fabulous maitre-d..
Favorite Dish: 3 words: Octopus Bagna Cauda. WOW....tender octopus cooked in garlic butter and served in a small cast-iron skillet...better than the 'pulpo' we had in Spain (I hope my Spanish friends don't read this)

This is a great breakfast place in the Highlands in Louisville. The entrance is a gift shop with all kinds of crazy fun stuff, leading into a huge dining room. The decor is eclectic, bright hodgepodge with a tall ceiling and lots of tables. The service is friendly and fast.
Favorite Dish: The biscuits are brick-shaped, HUGE, hot and covered with a dark crunchy topping. I went into carb shock but it's pure heaven. The cheese grits are creamy and delicious.

One of our local co-workers in Louisville recommended that we meet in the 4th Street Live portion of town for dinner, and said that Raw was a new restaurant that could accommodate our group of 15. The atmosphere in the place was more like a night club than a restaurant, with fairly uncomfortable seating for such a large party. We rotated around quite often, and eating sushi from lounge chairs was not my idea of fun.
The food however was delicious. The fish was very fresh, and the sushi chefs had spent a healthy amount of time making these creations. I definitely recommend the "Fire" roll (pictured here) which is a concoction that gets set ablaze to bake in the cheese on top.
For those that like it a little spicier, I would recommend the dragon roll, and I also tried the RAW roll, which included tuna avocado and eel.

Proof must have been one of the best dining experiences I had the pleasure of experiencing. Jackie, Anita and myself had a wonderful lunch. We wanted to try each of our orders as it was the first time for all of us, and the staff had kindly cut each meal up into 3's and served it on seperate plates for the three of us to enjoy.
It's not just a place where you enter the restaurant, sit at your table and look straight at the menu. The whole place feels like an art gallery. There are great photos, paintings and a unique video on one of the walls of a guy having soup, and surrounding it is a painting of a table. Looks pretty cool! Even the toilets are interesting! The mirrors at the wash-basins have tiny screens with eyes that are looking around giving you the sensation that you're being watched!
When I went to the bathroom, the girls had organised a Mint Julep using the mint leaves we had bought the night before at the supermarket. So on my return, there was a delicious cocktail waiting for me to be enioyed with the mint leaves! Yummy!
To enter the restaurant itself, you must enter via a little musuem, making the experience all the better. It's America's first museum which is dedicated to hosting contemporary art from the 21st Century.
There is also a 91 room hotel all attached to this fine site, which is surely giving the historic downtown district quite a lift!
Favorite Dish: I loved the whole meal! The menus have a large influence of Italian cousine mixed in with their own style.

As soon as Jackie picked me up from the airport, we drove straight to Joe's Knows Crabs for dinner. We had some large cocktails and the servings of each meal (we had a mixture of nachos, calamari rings, etc) were quite huge! I gather they specialise in a selection of seafood.
It was a nice place to start and being on the waterfront, a very nice spot also.

Crazy busy, but worth it. Great food! You can get takeout if you want but it is good to eat in too. Great salads, the tomato artichoke soup is excellent.
Favorite Dish: Salad plate. You can choose 3 pastas or salads. House salad is excellent with pecans and a homemade balsamic vinegar, as well as tuna with granny smith apples, and then curry chicken salad. Never a disappointment!

I missed Baja fish tacos when I returned to KY from California. Luckily, these guys did too, and decided to do something about it. Bazo's is located in St. Matthew's and features the fish tacos as well as shrimp tacos. Burritos and Chicken/Steak tacos also available. The salsa bar has extra hot salsa for the brave few.
Favorite Dish: Baja fish tacos of course! Great white sauce and served traditional style w/ cabbage and breaded fish. The white queso is bueno as well.
