The Moonlight BBQ: The Moonlight BBQ

    by lashr1999 Written May 14, 2005

    Rhonda eating Bargoo Moonlite BBQ

The Moonlight BBQ has what Owensboro is famous for and that is it¡¦s down-home cooking and yummy BBQ. I had about 2 plates heaping full. Here is the only area where you can sample mutton BBQ. The mutton does not have the usual aftertaste mutton has and it was very soft to eat. The BBQ is offered with 3 sauces: a thick BBQ sauce, a thin vinegar type sauce which may be for the mutton and a spicy type of hot pepper sauce. Also, try the Bargoo which is a type of chili mutton soup. The macaroni and cheese was great with real cheese on topƒº I only got to try a few of the many deserts offered since I was stuffed from the BBQ!!

The Big Dipper: Best little burger joint in town

    by cntrygrl_z28 Written Jun 30, 2009

This place has been here since 1954. There is no where to sit inside, but there are picnic tables placed outside. I currently live in England and constantly crave a Big Dipper Burger. Try it out!!

Favorite Dish: I opt to get the Chili Cheese Burger with an order of tater gems and the largest Cherry Coke they have! Everything on the menu is great though!!

Pangea Cafe: Best Restaurant in Owensboro

by NBI Written Jan 8, 2010

Pangea is a new restaurant in Owensboro, KY USA. My wife and I ate there last night for the first time and went back for seconds this evening. Its located about 100 yards from the Moonlight on Carter road. The food is spectacular!. Chef Justin Crandall, a graduate of the Florida Culinary Institue worked at the Biltmore Estates as a saucier after a two year internship with Auguste Carriero (PGA National Resort Excecutive Chef) He returned to his native Owensboro about a year ago to open Pangea. We found the atmosphere casual and friendly. Similar to the Buckhead Diner in Atlanta without the valet Parking. The menu included heaping sandwiches like the roasted pork loin / Virginia ham / avacado / swiss cheese "Cubano Panini" (which was out of this world good) for $ 7.55.
Every thing my wife and I had both nights was off the charts impressive. On par with the best food from the Hotel Bellagio's 5 star restauraunts in Las Vegas.

I suspect that Pangera will become a real hot spot when its 200 plus addition opens in March 2010. I recommend that you give it a try next time in Owensboro. This is probably the best eatery in Kentucky.

Favorite Dish: Everything I've tried is unusual and terrific. Everything is made from scratch including the deserts. This is Owensboro's first 5 star restaurant (with 3 star prices)

  • Moonlight Barbecue: Southern Barbecue at it's best!

    by cmitch920 Written Feb 21, 2005

Although the place itself is quite ordinary, none of the southern barbecue it serves could be called that. They serve an all you can eat buffet, starting with a bar for salads, and it's not just lettuce. There is an array of dishes that starts your meal off with southern potato salad, and a variety of other salads. Then comes the bar with the barbecue, shredded beef, chicken, pork, ham, sausage, along with my husband's favorite, mutton. The side dishes include spicy apples, macaroni & cheese (from scratch of course) and the same variety that makes the salad bar a meal by itself. If after the all that, you still have room for dessert, there's self serve pecan pie, sweet potato pie, Lady Baltimore Coconut Cake, and many more tempting desserts.
We used to go to Owensboro just to go to Moonlight Barbecue.

Favorite Dish: My husband loves the mutton, we've never seen it at any of the other barbecue places we've been to. The barbecue sauce is wonderful, not so spicy hot that you can't taste the meat, but with the zip that makes it just right. Any of the southern dishes served there are just mouth watering.
