When Daniel Boone and his men reached the Kentucky River on April 1, 1775, they quickly moved to establish Kentucky’s second settlement--the site still known as Fort Boonesborough.
Fort Boonesborough has been reconstructed as a working fort complete with cabins, blockhouses and furnishings. Resident artisans perform craft demonstrations and give modern-day visitors a true sense of what life was like for pioneers in Kentucky.
You'll probably see tons of kids running around - that is because every 4th Grade class in Kentucky takes field trips here, including yours truley.
Say hi to my aunt, she works in the gift shop. ;)

Great environment located downtown mainstreet. They have private tables with tablecloths and a floral arrangement on each table, some have candles. All around the cafe are lace curtains and other antiques and paintings to look at. They offer a variety of sandwiches and desserts.
Favorite Dish: I had a Turkey Sandwich and Tea.

A fairly large indoor fleamarket. You can find a variety of things here from new to used items.
The best part is it has a department store feel in that you can go from booth to booth and pay for all of your purchases at one centralized register, unlike traditional fleamarkets where each small booth has the booth owner sitting there making you feel as though you have to buy something.
What to buy: Primitive
Sport Cards
Books
Antiques
etc
What to pay: It depends on what you buy.

Drinking what? Yeah, when I try to explain this drink to non-Kentuckians, they don't get it either.
Ale-8-One, the soft drink unique to Kentucky, has been bottled in Winchester since 1926.
Still a closely guarded family secret, the Ale-8-One formula was developed by G. L. Wainscott in the 1920's after experimentation with ginger-blended recipes he acquired during extensive travels in Northern Europe. He sponsored one of America's first "name the product" contests, and "A Late One" was the winning entry. The drink's logo, Ale-8-One, was adopted as a pun of its description as the latest thing in soft drinks. Today Ale-8-One is operated by Frank A. Rogers, III and owned by him and his children.
Tours of the factory are offered on Fridays at 10:50 a.m. with advanced notice. The Ale-8-One Company Store is located in the main office building at 25 Carol Road, Winchester, Kentucky. The Company Store features many interesting specialty items to the public 8:30-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

20 minutes from Winchester, KY is Lexington. If you want to have a variety of shopping and dining id recommend making the trip to Lexington. They have many shopping centers/malls. You can visit Keeneland for a horse race, catch a concert/show/basketball game at Rupp Arena or maybe go a book signing at Joseph Beth.
