This plane is the Brazilian-produced Embraer RJ145, and serves this airport and Houston IAH several times a day.
Here are technical specs of the plane: http://www.continental.com/Travel/inflight/aircraft/erj145.asp
Shreveport, with nearly 400,000 residents, is the closest large city to Alexandria, and is therefore a transportation hub in the region. Shreveport has a major regional airport and can most easily be reached from Alexandria on Interstate 49.
AEX is served by Delta, Continental and Northwest Airlines. If you subscribe to e-mails from continental.com, their weekly newsletter often features discounted car rental prices for AEX. There is also a Greyhound bus station, and that's how we traveled between Alexandria and New Orleans on both visits. Because AEX is not a major airport, it's much cheaper to land in New Orleans or occasionally Baton Rouge. You really have to shop around for the best price because Louisiana has several smaller airports to choose from, and sometimes a bargain will pop up online.
It is small but reasonably comfortable. On the other hand, if you are over 180cm tall, this might not be the case for you.
