Inside the Visitors Center are a number of interesting displays about Audubon, his life, living in this part of Louisiana, and the plant and animal life indigenous to the area.

The Audubon State Historic Site preserves the Oakley Plantation House and a lush area of Louisiana bayou country. John James Audubon came here in 1821 and studied birds, plants and other life in the area. He did a number of his famous drawings here. Begin your visit at the visitors center. Here you will pay the entrance fee of $4 (as of February 2013) and make reservations for a tour of the main house.
