Favorite thing: under construction

There is a toll booth to the island - Bob was surprised to have to pay 50 cents toll although I had told him about that. It's called an environmental fee. When we were there, you could take tours of the salt mines, but they no longer give those tours. It is now leased to Cargill.

Favorite thing: The trees are full of birds on Avery Island.
We were very lucky to see a Pileated Woodpecker when we visited.
