 | Baton Rouge Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 76 | | It isn't uncommon to hear Baton Rougeans say "I'm goin' to the boat!" "The boat" usually refers to Casino Rouge, the northernmost of the two riverboat casinos anchored along the Mississippi River bank. But they don't always go there to gamble their hard-earned dollars away, but to enjoy the biggest buffet in all the city. The International Marketplace buffet is a definite "must-eat" in Baton Rouge. For the quality and quantity, it is reasonably priced (a little over US$10 per person for lunch, more for dinner). Of course there is usually Louisiana's trademark Cajun food and seafood and the normal Southern U.S. favorites, but also Chinese cuisine. All you can eat, with an excellent view of the activity on the Mississippi River, the riverboat casino, and downtown Baton Rouge.
The baked drum and pecan pie are excellent!!!! This joint has become a great place to eat around LSU... dining can take as little or as long as you like. I like to hit the Illegal Burrito for lunch, but it is also open for dinner. And as of summer 2002 it is not Illegal to buy a beer with your burrito (they got their liquor licsense). Just remember, if you order the Illegal Burrito (all 3 pounds of it) you aren't supposed to eat it with a fork - that's illegal!
The Burrito in a Bowl (because I'm a girl! - the Illegal Burrito's target audience, I am convinced, for the Burrito in a Bowl is the ladies, because honestly, their burritos are just to big to handle). Another thing I love about the Illegal Burrito - all their prices include tax. It's like a little slice of Germany with a South of the Border twist! Leave a Comment

This place is so awesome! I used to rate this my favorite Baton Rouge restaurant, but the more places I eat, the more I realize that this is my NUMBER 1 restaurant overall. Don't get me wrong, I have had better meals for sure. But the "coolness, combined with the great food makes this numero uno. It is at the north edge of LSU's campus and is frequented by the students. It is famous for having every possible beer known to mankind. They have a little promotion, known as "Around the World." Simply drink 70 beers from 40 countries within 6 months and you are rewarded with a t-shirt and your name engraved on one of the many plaques hanging on the walls. There are people who have over 40 shirts! This place just has a great atmosphere. It can get busy around 7 O'clock and on game days. My advice is to go to the bar, order some beers, and get a dozen oysters. **After 5 O'clock you have to be 21 to enter, except with parents. Also, there is NO non-smoking section, so bring your gas masks!**
The seafood pasta is out of this world! It is a large plate of shrimp and crawfish with an awesome sauce over some pasta. It comes with bread and a salad. Plenty for even the biggest eater and enough for two most of the time. Mike Anderson, a former All-American football player at LSU, opened this restaurant in 1975. It started out as a small sandwich shop, but has turned into a small franchise, with 5 different restaurants. The food is great, if a little over-priced, and the ambience is a little "commercial". Still, if you are looking for seafood, I would definitely recommend this place.
The seafood platter is enough food to kill a horse... or fill me up! It has shrimp, oysters, stuffed shrimp, stuffed crab, catfish fillets, crawfish tails, crab fingers, french fries, onion rings, hushpuppies, and coleslaw. And, yes, I saved room for dessert. The lemon pie gave me the additional 1,000 calories that I was looking for! Glutton that I am! I went to Drusilla's for prom *sigh* with 27 other people... we got our own private room. Maybe one day I will scan in a picture from that event On the other hand, you can go in wearing jeans and you are ok. The food is great and once again, reasonably priced (I'm a college student, ok?)
Seafood, of any kind, except I'm not wild on eggplant, but Mom LOVE's the Seafood Eggplant Casserole Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: 3482 Drusilla Lane. You can get off on the Drusilla lane exit if you are headed west bound on I-12, but not east (don't ask, it is just a typical Louisiana road system thing).Other Contact: 225.923.0896

Famous around Baton Rouge, Rasin' Cane's is a local fast food joint pioneered by some (at the time) LSU students. The perfect for after you go out... but if you eat here, you will have consumed enough fat grams to last through the winter! Really, I can't eat there anymore... I overdid it when I was a freshman in college.
Chicken... Fried. It's all they have. ask for, the box... replace the coleslaw for some extra texas toast, or some canes sauce (everyone loves the sauce) Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: There are 8 (I think) locations in Baton Rouge, but if you go, go to the original... on Highland Road, next to Serrano's and the Chimes!

It's a national chain, but I just love the dessert fondue
Aside from dessert, this particular melting pot has an excellent cheese fondue... but it's not on the menu so make sure to ask for the shrimp etouffee cheese fondue and savor every bite! Highland Coffee's - not a restaurant, but a coffee house Close to the LSU campus, highland coffees is a good place to study, relax, or play a game of chess. And also, almost always there is some sort of art on display... my friend Lisa had a photo exhibit there not too long ago.
Unfortuantely, you can't get beignets here, but you can get some delicious cakes and great hot tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: On the corner of Highland, across from the Chimes.
