Mike Anderson, a former All-American football player at LSU, opened this restaurant in 1975. It started out as a small sandwich shop, but has turned into a small franchise, with 5 different restaurants. The food is great, if a little over-priced, and the ambience is a little "commercial". Still, if you are looking for seafood, I would definitely recommend this place.
Favorite Dish: The seafood platter is enough food to kill a horse... or fill me up! It has shrimp, oysters, stuffed shrimp, stuffed crab, catfish fillets, crawfish tails, crab fingers, french fries, onion rings, hushpuppies, and coleslaw. And, yes, I saved room for dessert. The lemon pie gave me the additional 1,000 calories that I was looking for! Glutton that I am!

The is a very unique restaurant, with the HUGE tank in the middle of the room, complete with sharks and shipwrecks! The atmosphere is inspiring and the food excellent.
Favorite Dish: I had the catfish and it was wonderful!

Nothing fancy, just great Louisiana food. Try the Fried Shrimp Po-Boy too.
Favorite Dish: Seafood Gumbo. Since I no longer live in Baton Rouge, I crave the great food often. So if Mom didn't make any Gumbo, I head a few blocks over to Phil's. Almost as good as Mom's.

The owners of this place do a great job of hiring. The sevice is always good, with the staff being upbeat and funny. Calzones, pizzas, pastas, antipastas, etc. are the order of theday at this place. Great meal and service for a great price. Since I have moved from Baton Rouge, they have started hosting live music and wine-tasting events. All of these things can be found on their website (address below).
Other locations include:
250 West Lee Drive - (225) 757-3877
11567 Mercantile Drive - (225) 756-2400
9634 Airline Highway - (225) 927-2762
13686 Coursey Boulevard - (225) 755-0977
Favorite Dish: The Super-Deluxe Calzone is my favorite, by far. It has pepperoni, oven roasted Italian sausage, onion slices, green peppers, banana peppers, fire roasted red bell peppers , all for $8.95. I hate mushrooms, but they normally come on this dish.

First, I have not been here. So, I am reporting a second-hand story from my roommate. The reason for this is that he told me this place is really cool and I thought would be worth telling VT about. The coolness comes from the fact that you are eating while watching fish and sharks swim in a 107,000 gallon tank in the middle of the restaurant! So, if you aren't the great conversationalist and are on a first date, maybe you should come here!
Favorite Dish: My friend said the Tilapia was out of this world.

Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro. (yep, the same Al Copeland who owns Copeland's. you can tell by the very tacky - i mean loud decor, but I like it still the same).
When I go, it is usually only for dessert, because it is so filling and good. The actual food is pretty good - the menu has a wide range of choices, but I prefer to eat at Copeland's if I am going to patron an Al Copeland owned location for real food (Copeland's is on Essen land, also a good place to eat but not an absolute favorite. If you want to go there, get the mile and a half high ice cream pie for dessert!)
Favorite Dish: The Cheesecake... they have a whole bunch of different varities and they are all very good!

The atmosphere is perfect for a candlelight dinner with your favorite partner, surrounded by exquisite smells from the kitchen, and romance in the air. The food is pretty good too!!! In fact the food is excellent!!

Lots and Lots and Lots of FOOD! Be sure to come hungry...for a decent price you can leave with your belt loosened a few notches. You name it, they've got it....or so it seems. This is a large all-you-can-eat buffet setup and offers a huge variety of hot and cold foods, drinks, desserts, salads, soups, etc. One highlight: each table gets a basketful of freshly baked soft warm yeast rolls with a side of whipped honeybutter. Mmmmmmm!
Favorite Dish: The megabar that we enjoyed at Ryan's restaurant in Baton Rouge was incredible. I always heard the South knew how to cook, and once again this buffet was proof of that! This is a wonderful place to take children, too, because with all the variety they'll surely find something fit to eat, even with the fussiest of appetites! Then there's the dessert bar.......mmmmmmmmm
Probably most unique to the south, in my opinion, was the amount of fish and beans they served (not green beans per se, but black-eyed peas and other legumes, etc.) There were also a lot of summer squash and tomato dishes.....something I find particularly appealing but my companion did not LOL.

Again, as with JAlexanders, the ambience was cozy, warm, pleasant, romantic with soft lighting. One could dress casually or dress 'up' and still feel at home. The service was excellent and prompt. Everywhere I went here the people seemed to be happy with what they were doing.....a nice treat!
Favorite Dish: We started our meal with a 'Hurricane'---a cocktail known as a best seller in the restaurant that originated it: 'Pat O'Brien's' (see my New Orleans page). Let me tell you...it packs a punch lol. We followed that with a shrimp and crab gumbo soup which was spicey and delicious. We then ordered Grilled Red Snapper (am I right, Paul?) with your choice of sauces....mine was delicate, creamy and delightful. With that came warm, thick, flaky biscuits and red-skinned mashed potatoes and vegetables...all of this was out of this world...so nicely cooked and presented! It was one of the most enjoyable meals I had in Baton Rouge.

The ambience is cozy, softly lit, romantic. The waiters were friendly and courteous and the service was very prompt. It's one of those places that has everything except the requirement to dress formally. I was very comfortable there.
Favorite Dish: They offer everything from seafood to steaks, pork, chicken, and vegetarian dishes. The menu isn't large, but the choices are varied and so far everything I've eaten there has been absolutely delicious. The pork chops I ordered were enough for two men lol and came with delicious red-skin 'smashed' potatoes with roasted garlic, summer squash, and a soft, warm croissant, all preceded by a delicious salad of field greens, crunchy chinese noodles, and slivered almonds with a balsamic vinaigrette. Delicious! Of course, what Paul had was equally wonderful but I refrained from sneaking food off his plate. We started with a nice wine and ended with a succulent dessert.
