Across from the State Capitol is the Louisiana State Museum. There is a permanent exhibition detailing Louisiana history - the battle for the port of New Orleans, the Louisiana Purchase, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. While I visited there were two temporary exhibits - one a tribute to things lost after Katrina and another, a tribute to Louisiana music, Creole and Cajun culture, and Mardi Gras.
Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 9-5; Sunday 12-5
A brand new museum, very interesting:
1st floor presents the History of the state, some great personnalities, the agriculture and industry of the state and the story of slavery
2nd floor presents Lousiana's culture : food, music, festivals.
It takes at least 2 hours to visit everything, plan to go on a rainy day. If you don' have time o see everything, ask the hostess to give you a free ticket to come back!
