Luggage and bags:
Whatever kind of luggage and bags you like.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Camouflage, boots(those chestwaders we mentioned), and the weather changes all the time so be prepared to wear shorts in December.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: skeeter dope.
Photo Equipment: cameras, film, waterproof camera
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: tent, boots, skeeter dope, food, coffee, a gun, fishing pole, oatmeal creme pies
Miscellaneous: Everything but the kitchen sink. (you never know what's gonna happen.)
Luggage and bags:
Deville lives up to Louisiana's state license plate slogan of 'Sportsman's Paradise,' so get your hunting and fishing gear ready!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: RUBBER BOOTS!!!!!!! Extra changes of clothing would be wise, too. Many homes in Deville have an odd little motorized all-terrain vehicle they call a 'four-wheeler.' It's not quite a tractor and it has headlights, and it can get up to pretty good speed. Deville is muddy and swampy and definitely not the sort of place where you want to wear dress shoes. If all else fails, run to the Pineville Wal-Mart and buy a pair of rubber boots!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: There are enough chain stores in the Alexandria-Pineville area, plus enough general stores in and around Deville, that toiletries aren't a problem. For some reason, the Alexandria-Pineville region hosts an unusual number of hospitals and related medical facilities, so don't worry about health issues.
Photo Equipment: Your best bet here would probably be the Alexandria Mall.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Don't forget the INSECT SPRAY, whatever you do! In the months of August-October, the locals make it sound like you get eaten absolutely alive!
Miscellaneous: The best thing to bring to Deville is an open mind. The place looks like an abandoned scenario out of an old Lynyrd Skynyrd or Creedence Clearwater Revival song. However, behind the doors of these shacks are generous, kindhearted people who love to party and have a good time and be close to their families. I hope you'll enjoy your visit to Deville as much as I did; y'all come back now, y'hear?
