Homer is a town of about 3200 (down 15% since 2000) located along US Highway 79 in Northern Louisiana. Homer is not far from Interstate 20 and was named for the Greek poet. Homer is the parish seat of Claiborne Parish and has one of the few pre-Civil War courthouses remaining in the state. The courthouse was completed in 1860 using a Southern version of the Greek Revival style of architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is among my favorite courthouses. Claiborne Parish was named for former governor William C. C. Claiborne.
