    Traverse the world's longest bridge. The Causeway bridge is 24 miles long and connects Mandeville (on the north shore) to New Orleans (on the south shore). Be careful to observe the posted speed limits as the bridge is heavily patrolled by policeman...not that I've ever been pulled over by one of them!

    Lake Pontchartrain is one of the largest lakes in the United States trailing only the Great Lakes and the Salt Lake in size. The lake is great for all types of boating especially sailing.

    Many of the homes along Lake Pontchartrain are elevated to protect against flooding. Only the garage of this house is at ground level.

  • Fairview State Park is a beautiful and relaxing park along the Tchefuncte River between Mandeville and Madisonville.

    The park was visited by team on the Amazing Race: Family Edition.

  • Fontainebleau State Park is another beautiful place in the Mandeville area which allows you to experience peace and quiet. The pine forests and swamps have places for picnics and camping.

  • For a small bit of adventure, you can take a drive to New Orleans on the Lake Ponchartrain Causeway. Fortunately, this bridge did not sustain severe damage during Hurricane Katrina. Still, some people find it a bit unnerving when you reach the middle of the bridge and cannot see land in any direction (unless it is a very clear day).

    The bridge costs $3 on the Mandeville side and is free to return.

    Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana is the listed in Guinness Book of World Records as the longest bridge at 23 miles 1538 yards.
