    The Riverwalk Area

    Along the Boardwalk

    Favorite thing:

The Riverwalk area has a shopping mall, parking, hotels, clubs, restaurants, the Aquarium of the Americas/IMAX, riverboats, Harrah's casino, and many more interesting things. This place is the BIGGEST must see "area", because of the close proximity of these places. It is within 5 minutes walking distance to Bourbon Street and all of its attractions. See all the specifics of these places in my other tips.

The picture here is along the Mississippi, where they have a place for live music, many staues and other art. This pirate ship is displayed on the boardwalk, just meters away from the IMAX and casino.

Try and Get Lost... In a Group.

Favorite thing: Some of my coolest times in New Orleans have been just walking around with friends, with no general plan or direction. While I don't advise most people to walk alone around New Orleans, in a group, especially during the day, you are bound to come upon some great attractions. There are ALWAYS performers and other things that will catch your eye that you would have NEVER found on a website or tourist "to-do" list. These performers just happened to be passing through and we were seriously lucky to have caught their show. There is another picture in my "Cultural Tips" section with more information on the performers. What an acrobatic show!

    Skyline from Riverwalk

Fondest memory: I took this picture from the Riverwalk, a modern shopping mall located on the banks of the Mississippi River just upriver from the French Quarter. It shows the more modern side of the city, the Central Business District or CBD as its referred to, as well as the Riverfront streetcar which costs only $1.25 per ride.

    La Plaza de Espaa

Favorite thing: La Plaza de España was given as a gift by the government of Spain to the city of New Orleans as a gesture of goodwill and as a reminder of their common heritage. It is easy to forget that New Orleans was in fact part of Spain for 40 years because it's heritage is overtly French.

La Plaza is a nice place to sit and rest after walking around. It has a beautiful fountain which is surrounded by several tiled crests of Spanish origin. It is also right on the river, which makes it nice, too.

La Plaza is also commonly seen in many movies and television shows that are filmed in New Orleans because it is such a nice spot.

Located between Riverwalk Mall and the Aqarium on the riverfront.

    Visit the Riverwalk Mall. On...

Favorite thing: Visit the Riverwalk Mall. On the Mississippi River at Poydras, Canal and Julia Streets. Open Monday-Saturday 10AM-9PM and Sunday 11AM-7PM. Restaurants, bars and cafes may open early and close late. For more information, call 504-522-1555.

Fondest memory: The next day I met a very dear and great friend Daphne for lunch. June and I joined Darrell, her husband, and their two adorable kids in this restaurant in the RiverWalk Mall, one of my favorite malls in the world. We had a great time and afterwards we walked around and window-shopped. We even got to see fudge being made. Interactive style. Everybody say “OOOH FUDGE”. I can’t believe I didn’t buy much at all. We did take some great pictures though. My friend Daphne was teaching her son to be a photographer, the smart way. Don’t put film in the camera. Why waste film in the early stages of his development? I would not have thought of that. The wisdom one gains as a parent. Thanks for the tip Daph!!
