Alligator souvenirs: Take a bite out of New Orleans

by pamstravels Written May 18, 2005

I am not sure what shop in the French Quarter I was in when I took this picture, but you can find Alligator souvenirs everywhere. This was the biggest one I saw on display. You can find real alligator heads from $10 - $200 depending on size in these shops, but the cheapest seemed to be in the French Market.

If you visit Laura Plantation don’t skip the gift shop at the entrance! We visited as our tour waited for some passengers there so we gave it a try and we didn’t regret it.

It has some nice gifts, clothes, posters, a lot of toys and dolls, prints etc

There is a good variety of books too, I took one about Laura Plantation but they have many others, books with old Dixieland songs, books about slaves in Lousiana etc

    souvenirs: cheap and expensive souvenirs

by mindcrime Written Dec 24, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It’s obvious from my other tips that we preferred books and vinyls instead of typical souvenirs made in china. But if you like all these useless magnets, cups or whatever things New Orleans is full of souvenir stores selling the same things with no great difference on price range from one to the other. Pic 1 shows the entrance of such a store. With so many skeletons in these stores you will have a small cemetery tour anyway! :)

The good thing in New Orleans is that some of the touristic souvenirs are nice because they focus on skeletons and other Mardi Gras stereotypes so you may like them, even me I took a look at some tshirts showing jazz musicians…

If you can spend some extra money you have to check the art galleries along Royal street where you can find nice paintings, small statues of jazz musicians (pic 2), crystal chandelers and many many antiques that have a lot of money

Aquarium of the Americas Gift Shop: Souveniers and Cookbooks

by grandmaR Updated Jul 20, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In one of the reviews of the aquarium that I read it said that there was a gift shop around every corner, but I actually only saw two - one was at the IMAX theatre and the other one at the aquarium proper.

Note- Normally you can go into the gift shop WITHOUT going to the attraction, and that is the case here as well.

What to buy: The items on display include cookbooks, stuffed toys and other children's play items. I didn't buy anything here

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.: Not just a restaurant

by supercarys Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is a restaurnat with a fantastic gift shop section too. You can buy hats, shirts, mugs, pretty much anything, all themed with the Forrest Gump movie. The food is good but a bit pricey. The souvenirs are great - even just to look at. It's worth checking out if you liked the movie.

What to buy: Buy the hat that Forrest wears in the movie (I did - great hat!)

    Plenty of choices: Tourist Shops

by acemj Updated Nov 23, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are lots of tourist shops all around the French Quarter, but the one I liked the best was Toulouse Royal Gifts. They sell all of the usual items such as shot glasses, beads, tee shirts and postcards, but the quality is a bit higher and the prices are reasonable.

What to buy: Beads, hot sauces, Cafe Du Monde Chickory Coffee & Beignet Mix, cookbooks, Mardis Gras masks, New Orleans music, etc.

What to pay: Check out the website for prices.

    Souveniers: Voodoo and souveniers

by lizzytex Written May 13, 2011

This is a great souvenier shop. There is a dancing mummy outside the door - here we are in a photo op! There is also one of those Zoltar fortune telling machines like the one in the movie "Big". Very cool shop along the main drag.

What to buy: tee shirts, voodoo stuff, alligator heads, beads.

    Souveniers: Digger's delight Flea Market

    by meek&humble2830 Updated Jun 1, 2009

If you are the person who belongs to the " Digger's Delight " group, sad to say this flea market is not for you , the old saying of "one man's trash is another person's treasure " doesn't apply here. All the stuff sold are new , made in China and the usual things that you can buy if you walk into a grocery store or a dollar store, this ain't a flea market for me , really disappointed wasted my time walking from royal street up to here.. flea markets in new york, new jersey and philadelphia are really the best.

What to buy: If you're ready to pay $20/pc figurine try the voodoo items.

bronze figurine of a jockey and a trainer.

    French Market: colorful souvenirs

by tompt Written Nov 22, 2003

At the french market all sort of colorful souvenirs are for sale. Many stalls sell items used during the mardi gras. But you also use them to brighten up your home, or yourself ....
