    Mock Mardi Gras

The gunshot and the escort by the local police marked the official start of the mock Mardi Gras. This party was simulated by an organising private international firm for its employees.

People really go all out for Mardi Gras. There are numerous costume stores selling masks and constumes, but some people prefer to create, or paint, their own.

    Beads in the Trees

Second trip to New Orleans and once again just missed Mardi Gras! But the evidence is all around - what tree needs leaves when it can sprout beads?

Daytime parade. There are dozen of day parades to attend during and before Mardi Gras. This picture was taken at the imfamouse Zulu parade.

Go to at least 1 parade... and walk as many streets as you can, to make sure you see it all. There is soooo much going on and you don't want to miss a thing!
    Anything goes!

Float after float, after float. It never ended! What town can have 2-4 routes going on in the day, for at least 2 weeks?

I was really amazed at the elaborate floats during the mardi Gras parades. They much better than I had anticipated, and of course the frenzy of catching beads!

This is how you get the beads, and we all know what the beads get you. Be aggressive and catch as many as you can, they throw them off the floats. Usually parades run in the evening.
