    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Jefferson Transit bus to Tulane Avenue operates every 15-20 minutes (30 minutes on weekends) from the upper level at Door 7.
    Information line: (504) 367-7433.
    Fare: $1.60 one way.
It took me about 30 mins from airport to Tulane Avenue, from there walkable distance to French Quarter.

    Streetcar stop and bus stop

New Orleans has a good public transportation system. This photo shows two aspects of it. There are 3 streetcar lines, and closest to us in the photo is a streetcar stop. Across the street is a regular bus.

There is also a map of the routes and stops which is on the internet, but it is printed much too tiny to see. You can get maps in person by going to the RTA offices

    RTA Administration Building
    6700 Plaza Drive
    New Orleans,LA 70127

    RTA A. Phillip Randolph Facility
    2817 Canal St.
    New Orleans,LA 70121

or the library in the CBD.

    Fares are:
Basic Bus (or streetcar) Line $1.25
    Transfer $0.25
    Children 2 or younger FREE
Senior Citizen or disabled Bus/Streetcar Fare $0.40
    Senior Citizen Transfer FREE
VisiTour Pass (1-Day Unlimited Rides) $5.00
VisiTour Pass (3-Day Unlimited Rides) $12.00

The basic bus fares and transfers must be exact change, although the fare boxes take dollar bills. You can also get a one day pass on the streetcar or bus. If you want a three day pass, you have to find a business that sells them.

    St Charles Street Car

With your VisiTour pass, you may board RTA buses and streetcars as often as you like. No need to worry about exact fare -- just show your validated VisiTour Pass to the operator. Reliable and convenient, RTA service is within two blocks of most downtown hotels. Enjoy the comfort of modern, fully air-conditioned buses. Or take a nostalgic ride on the historic streetcars. RTA transit service with the VisiTour Pass is a convenient and easy way for you to shop, dine or just see the sights in New Orleans, America's most exciting city. VisiTour Passes are valid only on RTA service in the city of New Orleans/Orleans Parish.

    Where to buy VisiTour Passes
The RTA offers two types of VisiTour Passes:
    1 DAY : $5.00
    3 DAY : $12.00
To validate your pass, scratch off the month and day(s) you will be using it. On the three-day pass, make sure you select consecutive days. Your VisiTour Pass is not good until you validate it. If you are not familiar with the transit system, you can get rider assistance by calling RTA's RideLine at 248-3900. The RTA information specialists will need to know where you are (including the address, if possible), where you want to go and what time you want to leave. The specialist will tell you the location of the nearest stop, the approximate time of the next trip, and any connections necessary to get to your destination.
Be sure to look in the centerfold of WHERE Magazine for the RTA VisiTour Guide to New Orleans. This colorful map highlights attractions all around the city that are accessible via the VisiTour lines. WHERE Magazine is available free from your hotel. Ask for a copy at the information desk.

The VisiTour Pass is sold through information counters at hotels and retail centers. Please call RTA RideLine at 504.248.3900 for the distributor nearest you.

Buses are cool get a schedual at your hotel etc. or ask people.. they're $1.25 each trip. Taxis downtown usually start at around $2.50 and go up....... kinda expensive buses are cheeper and not hard to learn. The Taxis that drive downtown are pretty safe and cool.

The bus will pick you up all around town and costs only $1.25 per ride, but you can get a transfer for another $.25. I jumped on the bus on Magazine Street and rode it up to the park.
