It was out in the fields somewhere, but found it and it was nice and not overdone. Just simple and serene for the birds. He lived here about 20 years and liked the serenity and greenery. In the rear are four slaves houses, and they depict the times and life on the working plantation. There are some peacocks on premises that roam where they feel like. Also some other birds are free to enjoy the setting and I am sure well taken care of.

This plantation has everything you could ask for: an oak lined alley, a dysfunctional original family, and gorgeous grounds. Photography is allowed inside and out. An unusual detail is the doctor's office. The visit here is less tightly structured than in the plantations near New Orleans.

This is the smallest plantation house I visited, intimate and "lived in." Its main claim to fame is that naturalist John James Audubon was employed here as a tutor and painted 32 of his famous bird paintings before being fired for padding his hours. It is a very pleasant visit - not "processed" at all - with a beautiful nature trail.

My wife and I spent our 25th anniversary at Butler Greenwood. We stayed in Chases Cottage. It was real nice and peaceful to us.The feel of the past with the modern touches is good. You have choices,if you want to cook in the cottages, grill outside or just eat out in the fine resturants in town. The view of the pond with the wildlife is great.the whole place is so nice and clean and wonderful to walk around and view all the cottages and tour the main house.I love the history of the Butler Greenwood plantation and the fact that the place has passed generation to generation was very pleasing to hear.Ms Anne Butler and her staff was so very nice to us and answard a load of questions for us.Folks keep in mind,if you are looking for an over night stay or a peaceful getaway for a few days, this is the place. We are looking forward to coming back.So please call and book it.Many Thanks and God Bless,Charlie and Debbie Spurgeon

This museum marks a good place to begin your tour of West Feliciana Parish - 'Audubon Country'. After getting acquianted with some of the museum's exhibits, the friendly host/ess will be able to assist you with information on many of the area's attractions.
There are many brochures and pamphlets available for free to visitors here.
