by vigi Trip up Dorcheat Bayou with Narris Canoe Outfitters was really a great unforgettable experience. You'll really want to check out is their 37-foot cedar reproduction of the huge canoes used by 18th century French Voyagers during the heyday of the fur trade. This massive canoe can hold up to sixteen people and their supplies quite comfortably. More photos available in my Travelogue Leave a Comment Phone: (318) 949-9522

Mudbug Madness by ATXtraveler For those of you that do not know... the Mudbug is a Crawfish, which is very popular in Louisiana style Cajun cooking. In 1984, Shreveport residents decided that they would start a festival celebrating their Louisiana roots, primarilly because so many of their residents acted more like Texans than Cajuns... It is a great time to go out and check out some Zydeco music, eat a few hundred crawfish... and see the locals! The festival is normally the last weekend in May! Leave a Comment

by vigi Sci-Port Discovery Center provides an educational and entertaining environment for people of all ages (especially kids, not many adult will visit here alone!! hahaaa). The Center develops a comprehensive view of the world through the interaction hands-on of science and the humanities and serves as a catalyst to encourage lifelong learning. Accomodating IMAX Dome Theater's 60-foot screen. The sights and sounds of each IMAX film put you in the center of the action. The Red River District is located in downtown Shreveport under the Texas Street Bridge and is not very large. It is supposed to consist of great events, dining, dancing, and live music on the weekends. It's okay but nothing to cheer about. It features daiquiri bar Wet Willie's and the Funny Bone Comedy Club. There is also a few restuarants. The bands do not play during the winter and after a certain time at night you must be 21 to enter the area. Leave a Comment

by vigi features an unbelievable collection of over 1,000 mounted animals from around the world. While most of this collection is 'hands-off' they do have one display into which visitors are allowed to enter and touch the animals, which can make for a memorable experience. by jholley534 Renowned for its large murals, frescoes and amazing dioramas depicting the history and culture of Louisiana, the museum features exhibits of prehistoric Indian artifacts, Louisiana industry and agriculture. To the average out of town tourist, however, it might not be that interesting to you. Go and see for yourself. Leave a Comment

The discovery center is a 67,000 square-foot facility that features more than 200 hands-on exhibits and programs for all ages, eight interactive discovery areas, an IMAX Dome Theatre, daily shows and demonstrations, gift shop and a cafe. The IMAX theatre is great. You really need to go to one of these if you haven't. It shows about 3 to 4 different shows a day about anything from a Mt. Everest expedition to life as a beaver. The screen covers the sides, front, and partial top of the theatre to give amazing realistic visuals. Be careful if you have a weak stomach though. You can by tickets to the discovery center, the IMAX, or a discounted package ticket to both. You can also call ahead to get the times of the IMAX shows. Barnwell Garden & Art Center has a domed botanical garden conservatory with tropical plants, seasonal and native plantings. There are also some art displays on the walls, but not a large amount. The visually impaired can experience the Fragrance Garden and those looking for a peaceful walk can stroll through the adjoining Riverfront Park.
