    Trip up Dorcheat Bayou

by vigi Updated May 8, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Trip up Dorcheat Bayou with Narris Canoe Outfitters was really a great unforgettable experience. You'll really want to check out is their 37-foot cedar reproduction of the huge canoes used by 18th century French Voyagers during the heyday of the fur trade. This massive canoe can hold up to sixteen people and their supplies quite comfortably.

  • Sci-Port Discovery Center

by dreamdeb Written Apr 13, 2004

A must for those travelling with children of any age, or those who are children at heart. If you are a member of a science center in your home-town that is affilitated with the ASTC (Association of Science and Technology Centers?) you might qualify to enter the center free or at a reduce rate. Check and see. The hands-on science environment is great and you should allow at least a couple of hours to see it. The IMAX dome theatre is extra, but the movies are a unique and not-to-be-missed experience. There is a nice gift shop and a small cafe on-premises.

The Thrasher Cabin is a rural Caddo Parish 'dogtrot' log cabin and was built in 1835. There were some wonderful old pecan trees around these buildings which were missing a few pecans by the time we left.

    A photo from the side

Really as much off the beaten path as a 'must see.' A fantastic smaller museum which features western artists' works, including Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell.
As much as the museum, the azalea gardens surrounding the gardens is a wonderful place to stroll or just relax.

This refinery is just heading into Shreveport from the Texas border. I took this photo from some distance, out of the car window, on the side of the freeway and in the rain. I can only imagine how bright it is up close.

    Cross Bayou

Cross Bayou is one of Shreveport's most historic waterways. On the south bank of Cross Bayou, near its mouth, was the Confederate Navy Yard during the Civil War. Cross Lake is not as big as Caddo Lake but still a very interesting sight.

    Riverfront Park

by keeweechic Written Feb 25, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Right on the Red River is Riverfront Park which incorporates The Barnwell Gardens and Art Centre. The waterfall is quite a feature and you can view it from the bottom or on a landing at the top where the path just edges itself over into the falls. There is a lawn terraced amphitheatre and domed botanical garden conservatory.
