    Lunch for the Gators
  • Tip Rating:
  • There is a gator pen down a path where they have two of these fellas called "Big Guy" and "Nubbie". Apparently they call them for lunch and they come up close to the fence to eat. Heavens knows who’s on the menu. They feed them any hot Summer Sunday around 4.00pm between April and September if you care to find out.

    The Schexnayder House
  • Tip Rating:
  • This house was built in 1830 and moved from the west bank of the Mississippi River (3 miles downriver from Sunshine Bridge). It is a typical Arcadian style with a centre hall. In the 1940’s a cannonball from the Civil War gunboats on the Mississippi river was found in the attic by a roofing contractor.

At the Village it is the Pottery store which features handcrafted wares made by local artists. There is functional and well as sculptural pottery. They have artists demonstrations and pottery classes for children and adults.

    The Gaudet House
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is a large 1830 centre hall Acadian home which originally came from Lutcher, Louisiana. There are three rooms down both sides and two down the centre hall. The interior walls are beaded cypress boards. It is a unique treasure because it was built with ‘bousillage’ insulation in the walls which was a mixture of mud and clay, moss and horse or animal hair.

At the village it is the River Region Art Association which has original artwork, paintings, sculptures, wood craftings and handmade Louisiana souvenirs.
