    Cock fights

    by Cabana_Boy Written Nov 20, 2003

That's right folks, you don't have to travel abroad for the good wholesome family entertainment that can be had at a cock fight...

Naturally, Louisiana is one of the last states in the union where cock fighting is still legal...god only knows when and where this local tradition got its start, but it is alive and well...

A day at the fights is like no other, the cockers gather in the cockhouse with their cocks until their numbers are called...then it's into the big ring (pit) to put rooster to rooster....

As soon as the cocks and their handlers enter the pit, the gambling begins, "I got 20 on the red rooster.....50 over here" and then the words everyone is waiting for bellow from the referee, "pit 'em" and that's when the action starts....cocks charge each other, flying up into the air while the crowd cheers, "C'mon red....get 'em gray."

The birds go until there is an obivous winner, and that means there will be some country fried chicken on the menu for dinner, after all, it is a single elimination match....

Please allow me to introduce FireCracker...

    JoJo's Quality Seafood & Poboy's: JoJo's Quality Seafood & Poboy's

    by Cabana_Boy Written Dec 15, 2002

JoJo's...where everything's to go!!! This is the first place that I ever had crawfish.

Caneboy and I stopped by one afternoon and pick up 8 pounds of the boiled little bastards and went back to the Double A for a pinch-n-eat session that lasted about an hour. In terms of beers consumed, it was only 2, mostly becuase we were too busy eating. Regardless, my lower lip was burning from all the spice boiled up in the crawfish...

Favorite Dish: Crawfish with that special Southern Louisiana touch on the spices. Naturally, this is washed down with a few beers.

    Louisiana's culinary specialty...
