    • As with a lot of places in Maine (and New England), the summer months bring loads of tourists into Acadia National Park. In fact, the busiest months from July to September see most of the 3 million annual visitors. Busloads and busloads of people clog the roads, rest areas (including bathrooms) and local accomodations. Huge cruise ships anchor off the coast near Bar Harbor and dump their thousands of passengers ashore and these people get into more buses that go into the park. I guess you get my point, it's too damn crowded in the summer months and that means no privacy to enjoy the nature wonders of Acadia National Park.

    I have been to Acadia National Park during the late Spring (May), mid-summer (June - July) and early fall (September - October), so, I have seen the park virtually empty and completely filled. To avoid the crowds don't go in June, July or August. I thought the best month was May. It was fairly warm and there was nobody there. You could have the trails and lakes to yourself. Fall is also nice, but there are still quite a few people there watching the leafs turn, but not nearly as bad as mid-summer.
