Thirsty Whale: Small Town Bar
The night I was here there was a live two-person band playing with one being a great violinist, and the music was great! Not sure what nights they have music, though the bar looks like a good place to relax and grab a beer. They have sports on and there is a pool table.
Joe's smoke shop: Cigars
On our first night in Bar Harbor Lou decided he needed a cigar, he often decides this when we are on vacation. So before going to cook diner and relax for the night at our campsite, we drove into town on a quest. Since Bar Harbor reminded us so much of New Hope, PA where A Little Taste of Cuba is located, we figured there must be a cigar shop in town. Low and behold we were right! On Main St, sandwiched in between Carmen Verandah's and Rupununi, is Joe's Smoke shop. They don't have a huge selection, just a little closet like humidor to the side of the bar. We didn't stay long, but it seemed like a nice place to hang out with a drink and a smoke. (That is if you like the smell of cigars, which i don't which is why Lou has to be outside if he is going to have one)
ImprovAcadia: Hilarious Live comedy theater
ImprovAcadia features witty, sophisticated, and hilarious improvised comedy. The professional actors from Chicago create spontaneous scenes and songs from audience suggestions. The 8PM shows are appropriate for families with kids of all ages. The 10pm can get a little more adult but is still smart.
They do shows 7 nights a week from Memorial Day through Columbus and have a full bar, snacks, and locally made delicious desserts. It's also nice and cool in there during hot summer nights and there's an elevator for those who need it.

Seems to be more of a mixed crowd here, some locals, but mostly out of towners. Anyway, local musicians playing acoustically and lots of beers. Again, try the local brews, Bar Harbor Real Ale is an excellent choice. Cute hostess too...

Joe's Smoke Shop for cigars...
Joe's Smoke Shop for cigars (anything Dominican) and Johnnie Walker Black with an Amstel Light chaser.
After chowing down on lobsters at dinner, head over to Joe's for a smoke and an after dinner drink... Joe's is a great little bar, neat and simple. It's a small place; so, you are bound to meet new, like-minded people while you're smoking and boozing.
Thirsty Whale, Bar Harbor: Thirsty Whale, Bar Harbor
This is about the only nightlife I found on Mt. Desert Island, where the sidewalks seem to get rolled up pretty early. The bar is a lot of fun, though--I went by myself, and was quickly swept up into a group of very friendly island residents.

Go for the locals, especially the local fisherman who get pissed up at the Whale.
