No, the Trail Kitchen is not the name of some fancy tourist restaurant in Maine. It is just an accurate description of Bob Howe's lunch setup during his guided hunts. He straps the propane grill and enough food for several hunters on the back of his snowmobile. When lunch time rolls around, he fires up the grill, throws down some meat and cooks up some wonderful lunches including hamburgers, hot dogs with chili, soups, roast beef and onions, and others. He always has a variety of drinks, chips, and most important, homemade pie, cookies, or brownies.
Andrea Howe spoils us with desert when we stay at the Pine Grove Lodge. Almost every night at dinner there will be one or two different home made pies. Even on our trail lunches while hunting we will have pie, cookies, or brownies.
As Bob said during bear season, "We can't guarantee that they'll get a bear, but we can guarantee that they'll eat well" (Maine Today.com, 28 Aug 2004).
