The town center of Blue Hill is small, but it has some great shops. You'll find antiques, local crafts, art galleries, chocolates, books, and clothing. You can easily spend a good part of a day browsing through the shops. There is even a good country store in the town center with a great deli, good wine selection and all the basics.
Of course, if you absolutely have to have your supermarket items, there are the big Tradewinds supermarket and Rite-Aid drug store just south of the town. This is likely the largest supermarket/drug store complex on the Blue Hill Peninsula. Those store are there is you need them, but thank goodness you don't have to look at them if you stay in Blue Hill.
Blue Hill must be a very well-read town, because I counted three separate book stores in its tiny town center. Blue Hill Books was recommended by the owner of our B&B, so we stopped by to pick up some reading materials for our life of leisure.
What to buy: Blue Hill carries a wide variety of books, including best-sellers, books by local authors and classics. When I am on vacation I like buying two kinds of books - books by local authors (whether they are best-sellers or not), and cookbooks featuring local cuisine. I found both at Blue Hill Books. Now if I can just get that snapping lobster in the pot!
