Calais is a friendly little border town in Maine and home to 3,447 . It is located in eastern Washington County situated on the Canadian border and the beautiful St. Croix River .It is across the river from St Stephen , New Brunswick and a good night stop going to or coming from Canada.
There are plenty of restaurants and accomadations of various types for a good evening.
We stopped here early enough to check in at the tourist bureau and get some tips for dining , activities and a motel .
Dispite the tough name to remember this is a good place to go for a good meal after a long drive. It's not fancy but its small town friendly . The chicken pot pie is to die for!!
This was a pleasant surprise . We weren't expecting such a wonderful seafood restaurant in such a tiny town , but the Chandler rated right up there with some of the better ones.
The restaurant is in an old charming house with lots of little rooms , wallpapered walls and lots of candles. The food was plentiful and delicious.
Favorite Dish: Try the broiled seafood platter ...and if you want ask for a few deeped fried clams ....it'll make the whole thing even better!!
