Favorite thing: There awesome views from Portland Head Light!! In the winter you can watch the big storms churn up the ocean and the in the summer when the sun is shining the water is a nice blue color! We enjoyed a nice cool breeze on the day we visited!

Favorite thing: Late on Christmas Eve in 1886, the three masted bark Annie C. Maguire struck the ledge at Portland Head. Keeper Joshua Strout, his son, wife, and volunteers rigged an ordinary ladder as a gangplank between the shore and the ledge the ship was heeled against. Captain O'Neil, the ship's master, his wife, two mates, and the nine man crew clambered onto the ledge and then to safety. An Apparently this all happened on a clear night!!

Favorite thing: To tell you the truth I don't know if there are tours that go inside or not! We were kind of in to much of a hurry when we visited. We walked around the outside enjoying the fresh breeze and taking in the atmospere!! It was a beautiful day!! The tower of the light house is very impressive!! I believe it is 92 feet high.

Favorite thing: You can see the ring on the tower that is about 3/4 of the way up. That is where an additional 20 feet was added to the tower in 1865!

Favorite thing: The light house has been unmanned since 1989. It is fully automated now. The original building was constructed in 1790!!
