West Quoddy Head Bog

This was my first time to visit a bog. This one is a part of the hiking trails of Quoddy Head State Park. You will have to hike about a quarter of a mile on the Inland Trail to arrive at the bog. There is a boardwalk through the bog with nice interpretive signs. We visited at a time when many of the plants were in bloom.

Pitcher plant

We visited West Quoddy State Park in early June and found it to be a nice time to visit because many of the plants were in bloom. The West Quoddy Head Bog is a part of the hiking trails of the park. The park map gives easy directiions to get to it. One of the plants I found interesting was the pitcher plant. You could see the water standing inside the plant ... and my reading indicates that it also catches insects.

Take the Bridge to New Brunswick, Canada

Franklin D. Roosevelt International Bridge

Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada, is just east of Lubec, Maine USA. The only way to get to Campobello by land is across the Franklin D. Roosevelt International Bridge. If you were to travel to Campobello Island from Canada you would have to either fly or take two ferries, first from the Canadian mainland to Deer Island, and them from Deer Island to Campobello Island.

This quiet and remote corner of Canada is certainly worth seeing. On Campobello Island you will find the summer home of former United States President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Herring Cove Provincial Park, the stunning East Quoddy Lighthouse, Mulholland Lighthouse
and lots of beautiful scenery. Overlooking the legendary Bay of Fundy, with the highest and lowest tides in the world, the entire area is a haven for wildlife.

A passport is required to enter into Canada from the United States.

Hiking at Quoddy Head State Park

As we hiked the trails at Quoddy Head State Park we came to an unusual (to me) forest. It seemed almost "enchanted". The trees were all the light colored (we think birches) and covered with a type of moss. With the sun filtering through .....
