Cafe down by the Ferry Dock...: There is no NIGHTLIFE on Cliff..there is ice cream

by ladyanne

This is "after supper time"....go to the wharf for the last ferry coming in and have an ice cream cone before night time falls.Night time on cliff is usally reading or for those who can't live without the television or live year round....a t-v.For us "summer folk", it is watching the sunset, reading or playing cards. I also like sitting on the porch wrapped in a blanket, and watching the two lights LIghthouse blink off across the Luckes Sound. wear something.

The Cliff Island Cafe: Last Ferry out for the night. Ice Cream time!!!!

by ladyanne

Well, gather up the kids or old folks, hop on your bikes, or golf carts or walk down to the Ferry Wharf and to the Cafe, for an ice cream cone. Last Ferry off for the day.Sit on the picnic table or go down on the wharf benches, visit with the other folks there, watch the fisherman cast for mackerel, watch the sunset over the mainland (can be gorgeous firey red orange sky). Just a relaxing fun evening on Cliff Island, Maine Bathing suits, shorts, sundresses....you name it (no birthday suits please!).

Geddys Pub: Great food, great atmosphere

by PA2AKgirl

After spending a fair amount of time searching for the name of this place online (because I had forgotten--I'm really bad with names), I finally came across it. Thank goodness for online menus. But anyway...This place was a lot of fun:) Not only do they have GREAT food here, but the live music was entertaining. The night we were there is was a one man show and he played some decent stuff. We got to sit right next to him, but thanks to smart acoustics, the table didn't vibrate or anything (though, that could have made things even more interesting, hehe) Additionally, they have a nice selection of beers--this is where I had the blueberry ale Casual. It's a "beach"/national park/boating town. Though Bar Harbor itself is pretty upscale, the community seems rather laid back and most of the people eating or drinking at these places are most likely NOT from Bar Harbor.

The Thirsy Whale: great watering hole in Bar Harbor

by modsquads

this is just a cool, rustic old place in Bar Harbor to get good beer, some munchies, and possibly live music. our first time there happened to be an open mic night, and my boyfriend got up and played with some guys there. we've been back each time we go to maine, its not too touristy or expensive. BUT WATCH OUT!! bars close at 1 am, and they mean it...our 1/2 full drinks were whisked away from us at the strike of 1!! exteremely casual

Bull Feeney's: a little piece of Ireland

by richiecdisc

I generally will not go into an Irish pub outside of Ireland but Gritty's service and cold atmosphere forced me up the street and I loved the old building anyway. It turned out to be a nice little place with great nightly specials and a decent beer selection too, offering not only he ubiquitous Guinness but also local Maine products as well.

Gritty McDuff's Portland: despite the service, you have to go...

by richiecdisc

This is Maine's premier brewpub and with its great cask conditioned beer and cool funky wooden bar, it is easy to see why. But I must say the service was the worst on the whole trip. Still, for the beer lover, you have to go and sample their brews. If in Freeport, you can do this at their much more friendly location. We were lucky to be there for their tasty Halloween Ale and the Freeport location had it cask too. :))

Prides Corner Drive in: passion pit

by BabciaMaine

If you remember going to the drive in with your friends maybe many people packed in the trunk for free entry , you are probably old as dirt ; as I am . ;>). There are 2 drive ins that I am aware of in MAine one one route 302 in Westbrook and another on 302 in Bridgeton . Perhaps there are others. Shoes in the concession stand

Portland's Old Port. The...

Portland's Old Port. The coolest Hippest place to be - in Maine of course. Tons of relatively hip bars, restaurnats, and enteretainment. Very little in the way of 'nightclubs'Ogunquit is rumored to be a bit hopping on weekends in summer but I have yet to experience it (I'm always too worn out from the whole outdoor thing)Old Port is cool. A bit hip, urban, and somewhat modern (in its old fishing wharf setting) New England chic (Jeans and something black)

I spent my 21st Birthday at this pub, and in the US that is a big deal. The reggae band that was playing upstairs that night came out to the curb and sang 'happy birthday' while I was retrieving my dinner...sorry about the visual. Casual

Carmen Veranda's in Bar Harbor

by Sunshine64

Carmen Veranda's in Bar HarborWe had a great time playing pool in drinking their excellent microbrews. There wasn't live music the night we were there, but they do have music some nights. Anything. We were wearing the clothes we'd hiked in, baseball hats, etc.
