With it's bronzed-dome, the U.S. Naval Chapel on the Academy campus, 101 Cooper Road, is a lovely building. There are not many bronzed-domes in the U.S.A. but this is one to see while in Annapolis and it serves all faiths at various times. The corner stone was set in 1904 and the dedication happened four years later. A tour of this chapel is possible except during weddings, funerals and memorial services. All are welcome to join the Brigade of Midshipmen for church services.
Beneath the chaple lies the John Paul Jones crypt. In 1913, the remains of John Paul Jones were laid to rest in the crypt and the public is welcomed to visit. Check for day and hours.
What is it they say, "There are no atheists in a fox hole?"
Well, that might as well be appropriate for Midshipman too!

Annapolis is a wonderful day trip from Washington D.C. but also a destination on it's own. The City docks seem to be one of the biggest draws for a tourist and there you can see the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Memorial site which has changed it's look since I was there. The Middleton Tavern is just a block or so away and beyond that you'll find the streets of the old section of Annapolis. The Maryland State Capitol building, which served as the capital of the U.S.A. for a short time, can be seen from most parts of the city. If you look carefully at this photo, you'll see it too.
There are carriage tours and walking tours for those who would like more information of what is seen along the way.

In the process of being expanded, the Banneker-Douglass Museum--named for Benjamin Banneker and Frederick Douglass--is a small museum dedicated to African American history in Maryland. There is also usually an art exhibit and the museum hosts cultural and arts workshops and activities as well.
Located a block away from the Visitor's Center in the historic former Mt. Moriah AME Church, the museum is a nice place to visit and escape the hubbub of downtown Annapolis.

Pulling out of the river into the Bay provides a beautiful view of opne of the US' most unique and beautiful towns, Annapolis. The green dome seen to the left in this photo is the Chapel of the United States Naval Accademy.

Forrestal Lecture - once a month all of the midshipmen are required to attend this lecture series in Alumni Hall. There is a great variety in speakers, from physicists to Elizabeth Dole or an expert on central Asia. The lectures are usually great and very well-presented, and it's great to see 4,000 midshipmen in their whites filling the seats.
I'm not sure how you can arrange to go but I'm sure it's possible by calling.
