Inner Harbor / Downtown: "The Block"

by HotSpotJ Updated Apr 4, 2011 512 reviews

    Larry Flynt's Hustler Club

I accidentally walked up "the block" as the locals call it, and I knew where I was as soon as the first doorman approached me about free cover and discount dances.... I actually went in a couple of these spots, and as a bachelor I would recommend only Larry Flynt's Hustler Club, the others are a bit seedy and overpriced....

Dress Code: They expect casual, but the better you dress, the more $ they will think you have, and you'll have to fight the girls off of you... so this could be a good thing, or a bad thing, budget depending...

Inner Harbor / Downtown: Power Plant Live

    Power Plant Live at night

Power Plant Live is a couple of blocks back from the Power Plant Building, just look into downtown and you can't miss the neon signs... it is home of many franchised clubs such as the BAR (Baltimore), Have a Nice Day Cafe and Howl at the Moon piano bar.... if you've been to these before in other cities (Charlotte, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale) you'll know just what to expect... all types of drinking, dancing, and fun!!! There is a mechanical bull at the BAR Baltimore, and all of these places can be entered by buying a "1Pass" for only $10! There is also an Improv in this facility for those who want to laugh the night away...the restaurants here are awesome as well.....

Dress Code: Dress Code is casual.... you will get drunk, and you will sweat on the dance floor.... not an upscale scene at all if you are going there for the bars, but still very fun! Check out the website below for more details

    POWER PLANT LIVE

This area has a little everything here. Plenty of places to choose from to eat, drink, dance, laugh, or to just kick back to enjoy the music.

Dress Code: Mostly casual, but seeing some of folks in the Inner Harbor were dressed to the hilt.

The Wharf Rat: A Pre-Game/Post-Game Haunt for Rodents?

by AKtravelers Written Dec 15, 2007 936 reviews

Tom and I get stoked up before the Ravens' game

My favorite place to enjoy great locally-brewed beer, friendly people and hearty cuisine before heading off to the Ravens or Orioles game is the Wharf Rat Pub, right on Pratt Street. THe brew their own brands of beers, dubbed Olivers, all of which are really good (I like the oatmeal stout -- and it must be healthy with oatmeal in it, so I always have at least two). Obviously, it can be crowded on game nights, but that's part of the fun.
If you are interested in eating, the food is good -- though I'd recommend showing up well before game time. My favorite dish is the ultimate in Maryland food: Chicken Chesepeake, made with Eastern Shore poultry and covered with crab meat from the bay. Yum!

Dress Code: On game night, I recommend Ravens' or Orioles' garb if you have it, though if you're going to a Monday Night game in December, just wear anything that's warm. Unlike many towns, Baltimore is very tolerant of opposing colors, so you can often see people wearing the visiting team's shirts -- even if they're Yankee or Steeler fans!

by ReinaMorena Written Nov 17, 2006 53 reviews

This is a great place to come for fun, and dancing. It has a spring break on the mexican border feel to it all year round. Two Dance floors, 3 bars. Friday is ladies night $5usd for ladies and free drinks all night and $10usd for men (sorry guys you still have to buy drinks). Saturday is $10 cover for every one and Sunday is Latin night (Mostly Latin music all night with some English favorites as well). Contests, Bardances (from the hot male bartenders), Pictures posted on web. If your down town and looking for some fun this is the place to be!
There is a parking garage for a flat rate of $12 at night. So take that cost into account for the night.

Dress Code: Jeans ok but Can Not be too Baggy or loose fitting. Come looking nice but you dont need a suit! Ladies~ anything goes from heels to sneakers but look good!

Best place in town for Billiards with 16 tables. This gem of a haunt has a complete billiard halls, bar and restaurant in a classic setting, fashioned after the era of Edgar Allan Poe. Reasonable priced drinks and great service! Cigars available and there is often team trivia with the winners receiving gift certificates to Edgar's.

    Dress Code: Casual

Inner Harbor / Downtown: The ESPN Zone: THe First of It's Kind?

by AKtravelers Written Jan 20, 2006 936 reviews

    Kevin shoots! Kevin scores!

I believe that the ESPN Zone in Baltimore was the first of its kind when it opened in the Inner Harbor about 10 years ago. Now there are many ESPN Zones around the country, but the Baltimore location still holds its own. Basically, the ESPN Zone is a big arcade of sports themed video games that sells beer, plus a big big big screen showing a premier sporting event. Other TVs around the bar will be showing that event or other games of interest. The most recent evening we were there, the Redskin's-Bucs playoff game was on, surrounded by college basketball and NHL games.
The thing that makes ESPN Zone unique is that its games are more than just video games. You can throw footballs to receivers, hit pitches from Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson or try to shoot a puck past a moving goalie. You actually work up a sweat between beers (though not too much of one, don't worry)!
If you're downtown and you like sports, you definitely should check this place out. With all the TVs, it's a good place to catch the NCAA basketball tournament or the World Cup.

    Havana Club: Some Happening Latin!

    by jlee008 Updated Nov 17, 2005 180 reviews

The Havana is this amazing place that is a Latin dance club. If you like Latin, you will love this place. It is a hot spot for the trendy yuppy. There is a dance floor that is surrounded by large cozy couches and chairs where you can lounge and enjoy your drinks between dances. (However, usually club members have first dibs on the seating). There is a cigar room that you can enjoy a cigar if you like. If you want to stay low key, just play some pool and check out what is going on around the place from that vantage.

Dress Code: Dressy, dress to impress is best. No jeans.
